Entry Level Courses
Certificate of Proficiency (COP)
An introductory level qualification which is recognized by Insurance Authorities for licensing of insurance professionals.
The certificate equips students with foundation knowledge in insurance. It is ideal for administrative or operational staff as well as support staff in functions such as Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, and Finance.
Prospective students should have a minimum of five ordinary level subjects. It can be completed in at least four months of study. One can study either Short Term, Long Term Insurance or Retirement funds Trusteeship.
The examination is based on the prescribed module which is obtainable from the Institute at a fee.
Diploma in Insurance
The course can be completed in one year and is open to holders of the COP. The five examinations are based on the Institute modules.
Students have an option to specialize in either Short Term Insurance or Long Term Insurance.
The subject combinations are:
Foundation level (all three are compulsory)
- Insurance Principles and Practice 1
- Insurance Principles and Practice 2 (take Life or Short Term depending on specialization area)
- Legal Aspects of Insurance
Branch level (choose one in preferred area of specialization)
- Long-Term Business (Long Term)
- Commercial General Insurance (Short Term)
Technical level (take one in area of specialization)
1. Long-Term or Life Route
- Life Assurance
- Pension Law Taxation and Administration
2. Short-Term or Non- Life Route
- Principles of Property and Pecuniary Insurance
- Motor Insurance
Advanced Courses
Associateship
Is an advanced qualification that demonstrates advanced technical knowledge across many areas.
It is for operational and managerial staff in insurance, broking, reinsurance, funeral, and pension fund administration companies. It is also for those aspiring to work at a strategic level.
It can be completed in one year. The six examinations are set from the Institute modules. Students specialize in either Short or Long Term.
The three compulsory subjects are:
- Risk and Insurance
- Reinsurance Practice
- Insurance Broking
Students choose the remaining three from fives electives in their area of specialization.

- Marine and Aviation
- Liability Insurance
- Engineering and Construction
- Business Interruption
Life Electives
- Life Insurance Practice
- Life Insurance Claims
- Estate Planning
- Retirement Planning
- Health Insurance.
Fellowship
Is the highest level qualification which demonstrates attainment of the highest level of professional competency.
It is for those who aspire to make strategic decisions within organizations.
